Aotahi Week 6 – Bee-Bots

This week we were lucky enough to have our Aotahi expert LOUISE bring in the Bee-Bots for us to work with. These little robots can help us explore lots of things while having fun and trying something new! The Bee-Bots helped us, estimate length, learn left from right, take turns, and share the Bots. Thank you, Louise! and Elizabeth for letting us use them this week.

Aotahi – Week 2, Mindfulness

We love it when Erica (our mindfulness coach) comes to visit every second Wednesday as she helps us with our mindfulness and calming techniques. Here are some photos of us during mirimiri (massage). Some of the techniques and words we use to describe them include; cat scratches, hot oven, feather fingers, and raindrops. Try these out at home!

If you haven’t already, check out our Aotahi website and click our mindfulness button. There are some links to more sessions from Erica that we have completed at school.

Aotahi – Fun Friday!

What a week! What a day! There will be lots of tired children coming home from school today. We have had such a great first week back to school and have loved welcoming our new families to Aotahi.

Friday is often called ‘Fun Friday’ in Aotahi. It is a day where we get to participate in lots of different activities like; choice and challenge, library, poetry, loose parts shed and then end our day with a quiet active play session. We had so much fun trying new things with our friends. Here are some photos from throughout the day.

Aotahi – Week 10; Our Taniwha

For our last assembly of the term, we shared the taniwha pictures we created on the iPads using the app, ‘Explain Everything’. We created these taniwha to help us protect and look after our place within the school, Hikihiki. Each taniwha created is unique to us and our thoughts on what we need to do to help our area flourish, from endless water to help the plants grow, to wings that create wind to keep everyone cool on hot days. We hope you enjoy our presentation.
